What terrible irony for Liam Neeson, losing wife Natasha Richardson to a ski accident just months after this sleeper action hit cast him as a man willing to protect his family at all costs. We can still enjoy Taken for what it is—a proficient, brutal, Bourne-style nail-biter, in which Neeson’s daughter is kidnapped abroad by Albanian sex traffickers. They picked the wrong man, of course—Neeson is an ass-kicking ex-spook with connections.
