When this winter horror dalliance was released, everybody simultaneously piped up, Seinfeld-style "Hey, what’s the deal with this Elizabeth Banks?" The Massachusetts native played Laura Bush and a porn actress within a couple months of each other in 2008, exhibiting a surprising—and welcome—amount of range. So what better way to exploit Banks’ versatility than cast her as The Recently Widowed Father’s Creepy New Girlfriend? This reimagining of 2003 South Korean scarefest A Tale of Two Sisters pits Banks’ seemingly nasty nurse against her new squeeze’s skeptical daughters. Emily Browning plays one of the sisters, who’s been undergoing psychiatric treatment in the year after her mother’s death. She experiences numerous awful visions in and around their gorgeous waterfront home, hence the writers set up multiple explanations—is there really a supernatural disturbance, or is Banks behind it all, Scooby-Doo style?
