The sea of superficially similarly styled bands like Sense Fail has made it difficult for even a veteran act like that one stand out. To do so, the Jersey quintet has stuck to their guns and simply out-written and outplayed their competition. Instead of trying to scream louder or shred faster than the rest, they've focused on fine-tuning their songcraft, resulting in the soaring choruses and desperate melodies of songs like the hard-charging "Lungs Like Gallows" and "Wolves At the Door." In the process, Senses Fail has got their dynamics down to a science.

There are many ways to extol the virtues of carpe diem; this Jersey screamo quartet is wisely heeding the advice of their new platter’s title by being especially prolific. Waiting Room is their third LP since 2004. Should be interesting to see if they continue to explore subdued harmonies and spacier embellishments, à la predecessor Still Searching, whose "Calling All Cars" nevertheless captured the vintage tension of Samiam.
