Reviews:
Audio Mixer: Kevin Houston . Recording information: Rocket Science Studio, Memphis. Editors: Keiland Holleman; Doug Easley; Kevin Cubbins; Scott Bomar. Photographer: Geoffrey Brent Shrewsbury. As one of Memphis's most well-known local musicians, Jack Oblivian has played in countless garage punk bands over the years, most notably the Oblivians and the Compulsive Gamblers. On his third solo album as Jack-O & the Tennessee Tearjerkers, Oblivian (n‚ Yarber) plays up many of the more roots- oriented touches found on the Gamblers' albums. Though there are plenty of rough-and-tumble guitar jams here, Oblivian allows for plenty of twang and even heads deep into the swamp for the accordion-driven "Blood Blank Blues." It's a testement to Oblivian's ability as a songwriter that DISCO OUTLAW doesn't settle for simple, snotty punk, though that would be a-okay too. Personnel: John Paul Keith (guitar); Adam "Bomb" Woodard (keyboards); Harlan T. Bobo (bass guitar); Paul Buchignani (drums).
